AKC Brochure: Welcome to the Wonderful World of the Samoyed
We are a non-profit organization sponsored by the Minuteman Samoyed Club, Inc. It is run by a group of volunteers spread all across the Northeast, with regional contacts in New York and New England.
The purpose of our group is to help find responsible loving homes for lost, abdandoned or unwanted purebred Samoyeds. By working with private owners, breeders, shelters, and humane organizations, we help to match adoptable Samoyeds with qualified adoptive homes. These homes (and dogs) are carefully screened by our volunteers. Home evaluations and follow up calls are made. Our organization advertises throurgh a regional newsletter, breeder directories, and the National Samoyed Rescue and Samoyed Rescue Alliance internet sites.
The average age of the dogs we place is 3 to 6 years of age. Adopting an older dog can make a lot of sense. It may already be housebroken. It will probably be full grown, so "what you see is what you get." It may even have had some training and be the perfect companion already. And, you will be helping save a life. If you are looking for a puppy, you should contact a breeder about purchasing one, as you are unlikely to get one through rescue.
We have a limited number of foster homes available, so we encourage individuals who are seeking to place their dog to keep their pet at their original home for as long as possible after contacting us, while we find a suitable home. This is also less stressful for the pet. We ask that all dogs be completely vaccinated, heartworm checked, and spayed/neutered before being placed in a new home.
People wishing to surrender or adopt a pet will be asked to pay a $10 fee to MSCR for processing paperwork when returning our application. Adopters will be asked to help reimburse the MSC Rescue for any veterinary expenses incurred while the dog is in our care, and give a donation to MSC Rescue to further our efforts.
Our group depends entirely on donations to keep our efforts going. Our volunteers contribute their time and money on phone calls, evaluations, transportation, bathing and grooming, information and training assistance. Donations, foster homes, and volunteers are always welcome! Our goal is to reach as many Samoyeds in need as possible and give them a second chance in life.
Bringing a dog into your family is a big commitment as he or she will share your life for years to come. Before you make the decision to adopt a rescue Samoyed or purchase a puppy, we have a list of questions for you to ask yourself.
The people listed below work together to find homes for dogs in our care. You only need to contact the person nearest you. Once you have returned your application and have a home evaluation, we will try to find the right dog for you throughout the New York and New England area that our rescue organization serves. We also work with rescue organizations in neighboring states.
